Laksala management took drastic measures to
pay supplier payments in order to uplift
handicrafts industry which was seriously affected by the Easter Sunday bombings occurred
in April this year. Dozens of suppliers who gathered in
the auditorium of Bope-Poddala Pradeshiya
Sabha, Kalegana in Galle recently under the patronage of Mr. Dilruk Abeykoon, Chairman,
Bope-Poddala Pradeshiya Sabha, received payments for their handicrafts from
Mr. Madhura De Silva, CEO/Director General,
Laksala and Mr. Kelum Jayawardena, Director
(Sales), Laksala.
The handicrafts industry in the country is mainly linked to the tourism sector which fell
sharply after the April blasts. Those who produce handicrafts became helpless
when they could not sell their products. At that time Laksala came forward to
support and encourage handicraftsmen by
giving their payments under the direct supervision of Mr. Muhammed Hamza,
Chairmn, Laksala.
