Laksala celebrates Sinhala and Tamil New Year

Sinhala and Tamil New Year is around the corner. Girls on Thummulla Laksala premises are beating raban (traditional drum) rhythmically these days. Every beat, that they play, is associated with a particular poetry or raban pada. The New Year celebrations are incomplete without a traditional raban. Therefore, playing raban by women who dressed in redde and hatte (cloth and jacket) gains significance in the New Year celebrations.

Hundreds of foreign customers are visiting Lakasala flagship store at Thummulla, Colombo 07 in this festive season and some of them have never seen “playing raban in this season” in Sri Lanka.
